The Parents Association of the European School Brussels III, in close collaboration with the school offers a wide range of quality extracurricular activities to children from nursery to secondary classes.

The extracurricular activities allow children to learn individually while developing overtime a better coordination, concentration, team spirit but also a sense of self-esteem.

Our mission

We provide a range of extracurricular activities to students of all language sections in a friendly and fun environment to enrich their lives through exploring, art, sports and musical and theatrical expressions.

Our activities

The extracurricular program is based on an inclusive rather than an exclusive approach. We endeavour to offer activities to allow children from all language sections to be together by sharing similar interests and developing friendships across the language barriers.

The activities are selected on the following criterions:

  1. The continuation of activities that are successful
  2. The educational aspect or the attractiveness of an activity
  3. Upon proposal from students/parents
  4. Their inclusiveness
  5. The infrastructure available
  6. The school time tables

After school activities ought not to be considered as a child minding activity. We encourage parents to enrol the child to activities towards which he/she has expressed an interest.

At the end of the school year, there are many presentations/demonstrations/shows (Music/Theatre/Art/Dance etc.) to which parents could attend.

Our approach

Our activities allow a first initiation and exploration of a multitude of non-academic activities (cultural, sports or artistic) in a playful atmosphere through games and workshops in groups with the exception of the individual music classes.

All our Courses are offered in French unless explicitly indicated in the activities description that another language is used.

Our program

All our activities are either biannual or annual, though individual courses are organized by 10 courses.

On Friday we offer biannual activities. This allows students to vary their activities and try to learn different crafts without an annual engagement.

  • Primary and Nursery The activities run from 10-09-2018 to 4-7-2019

  • Secondary The activities run from 10-09-2018 to 31-05-2019

The activities are organized in three different levels: Discovery (D), Initiation (I) and Advanced (A).

Using these different levels means we can better differentiate the kind of teaching needed and the educational content of each of the courses offered.

Discovery

The child is invited to discover the activity through games and playful activities. The activity is used as a basis on which to structure other ideas and activities. Fun is the key thing, and the activities evolve depending upon the children.

Initiation

Here the activity itself is the most important thing and the basic techniques are addressed more thoroughly. This level demands a greater degree of commitment from the child in the activity chosen.

Advanced

Practice and technique are now much more important. This is the more specialized extracurricular level available. However we recommend student to join other facilities if they wish to go further in a given activity.

Our instructors

The Extracurricular service has a core team of instructors with whom we have been working for many years.  New instructors and teachers are recruited by the Extracurricular service Manager through a network of professionals and organizations that offer activities to children.

Instructors/teachers are selected on strict criterions and are being chosen on the following grounds:

  • Their professional experience or training

  • Their ability to interact with children

  • Their capability of teaching a group of children

  • Their availability

  • Our needs

Though most activities are given in French our instructors/teachers speak English, German, Dutch, Greek, Czech, Italian etc.

Absent instructors/teachers are replaced the same day.

PRICES

a)  Prices for Périscolaire activities may be subject to change during the school year as we are constantly negotiating to get the best price/quality ratio. It may also happen that the price for certain courses is changed due to the number of enrolments, even once the course has started (in particular where one or more students drop out, with the result that the number of participants falls below the minimum). Where the price increases because only a few students are enrolled, parents who consider the price too high may cancel their enrolment without cancellation costs, but will have to pay a pro rata amount for the sessions which have already been given. Finally, courses can be cancelled due to low enrolement.

b) For annual activities, a reduction will be granted for late enrolments as follows:

Enrolment between             June  and  31-12-2018:      full price
